The most prominent and prestigious award in the field of Mathematics is known as the Fields Medal and the mathematician who will be honored with the Fields Medal 2010, for his tremendous work in number theory, is Elon Lindenstrauss.
Elon Lindenstrauss, an Israeli mathematician from the Hebrew University, was born in Jerusalem. Being the holder of a Master and Doctorate degree in Mathematics, he mainly works in the ‘Ergodic Theory’ and the applications of this theory in the number theory.
In other areas of his research work, distributions of torus periodic orbits and generalizing theorems by Minkowski and Linnik can be found. Elon Lindenstrauss also wrote a paper proving the Arithmetic Quantum Unique Ergodicity Conjecture.
The Fields Medal 2010 would be given in Hyderabad, India and Elon Lindenstrauss will reportedly be the first Israeli mathematician to receive the Fields Medal.
The achievement of the Fields Medal 2010 will certainly be a great honor for him because no Israeli has ever earned a Fields Medal before and, in view of the importance and prestige of the Fields Medal, the name of Elon Lindenstrauss will be remembered in the history of the world for a long-longtime as the Fields Medal is considered similar to the Nobel Prize of mathematics.
Even though the pecuniary prize associated with the Fields Medal is not as higher as associated with the Nobel Prize.
Many mathematicians however believe it is the honor and not the money associated with prize.
