Isaiah Zagar is a respected variety wall paint artist whose effort can be found over 100 public walls throughout the city of Philadelphia and around the world. Isaiah Zagar Born in Philadelphia and gown up in Brooklyn, he completed his B.F.A. in Painting and Graphics from the Pratt Institute of Art in New York City.

When Zagar was 19 years old, he exposed the folk fine art installations of Clarence Schmidt in Woodstock, New York. Influenced by Schmidt, Curt Schwitters, Simon Rodia, Joseph Ferdin, Picasso and Cheval, he was motivated to include the concepts of inexperienced artists as a materialization of fine art.

Zagar’s artwork is greatly prejudiced by his travels and the individual connections he has made with international folk and imaginative artists. Soon after, he & his wife settled in Philadelphia and began their enduring effort of creating public art and nurturing creativity in all its diverse forms.

Zagar’s work is integrated in the enduring collections of various art institutions, including the several museums and has been featured in solo exhibitions all over the Philadelphia region. Zagar has received grants for his creative brilliance from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Pew Charitable Trust for his work in Interdisciplinary Arts.

Isaiah Zagar has gained appreciation in different films and publications, most extraordinarily in the 2008 documentary, In A Dream, produced by his son, Jeremiah Zagar. He has spoken at numerous famous conferences and artists’ lectures both nationally and globally. Through over 40 years of creating artwork on a majestic, public level, Zagar has helped form Philadelphia into a prosperous artistic society.
