IUPUI loses to Grizzlies as Derick Nelson scores a career high 36 as his team defeats IUPUI 76-64. The Summit League championship game takes Grizzlies opportunity to advance to NCAA tournament.

The IUPUI defeat has given Grizzlies their second opportunity to land on the NCAA berth as they managed to make their school record for 11th consecutive win. The Grizzlies were able to take a berth at NCAA in 2005 before this win.

Derick Nelson was playing with a broken nose that he earned while his team managed a win over UMKC.

After scoring his first point when game was at five minutes play, Nelson managed to score 11 straight points for Grizzlies. Larry Wright added 16 points for his team while Keith Benson added 8 points.

From IUPUI side Alex Young added 19 points whereas Robert Glenn was second to Alex with 18 points. Leroy Nobles was third in point scoring for IUPUI as he added 14 to the scoreboard that malfunctioned for seven minutes in Tuesday’s game.

Before the end of first half, Nelson’s three-pointer provided his team to end the first half in lead while his fast break lay-up gave his team a double digit advantage over IUPUI.

IUPUI defeat not only left the Grizzlies at the winning podium, it gave Nelson MVP honor of the tournament.

IUPUI and Oakland were splitting two regular season games as Jaguars win the last meeting at 78-54 in January.

The malfunctioned scoreboard was also unable to give IUPUI some fictitious advantage as the saying goes when it comes down the mountain no body can stop a catastrophe and this time it was none other than Nelson who proved himself catastrophic for IUPUI.
