A software executive and a former head coach of the Marshall University’s football team, Jack Lengyel is a versatile person. Born in 1935 and a graduate of Akron University, Jack Lengyel had been the assistant coach at Heidelberg College from 1961-1962, at Cornell from 1963 to 1965 and at the College of Wooster from 1966-1970.
After the death of Rick Tolley, the then head coach of Marshall University’s football team, in a famous plane crash; Jack Lengyel was hired as head coach of Marshall University’s football team. Later, Lengyel left Marshall University and went into private sector but could not stay there for a long time and joined Louisville in 1980 as director of athletics. In 1981, he joined Missouri and stayed there up till 1984. Later, he performed duties as athletics director for Fresno State for two years.
He was hired by the US Naval Academy as athletic director where he retired after serving for 14-year and was awarded 2005 John L. Toner Award. The award bestowed upon him from National Football Foundation was in recognition of his services in navy.
After his retirement from navy, he also worked as athletics director at Eastern Kentucky University, Temple University and lately in Colorado University. He also performed on Board of Trustees at US Naval Academy. At present, he is the vice-president of XOS Technologies, a software solution provider for sports programs.
