James Watson is a molecular biologist, one out of the two scientists who discovered DNA, in 1953. Both the scientists, James Watson and Francis Crick were awarded with the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1962 for their significant discoveries.
The 50th anniversary of this remarkable discovery of DNA structure is celebrated on the new homepage of Google designed for celebrations. Google and Halloween 2009 has showed a new symbol or “doodle” on its homepage to rejoice its valuable users, and this is a wonderful way of celebration by just clicking on the Google logo. James Watson discovery is the latest celebration of Google.
Watson started his Ph.D. research at Indiana University in 1948. Afterward he went to Copenhagen University in fall 1950 for a year of postdoctoral research and he started his research in the laboratory of Herman Kalckar, a famous biochemist. Watson intended to discover the structure of DNA and finally he succeeded in 1953.
In 1968, Watson joined the “Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory” and served as the president and Director of the laboratory for about 36 years, and finally in 2007, he accepted the post of Chancellor of the laboratory. The center of his interest throughout was DNA and its overall working.
Watson wrote many books about his work and experiments. His very first book was “Honest Jim, this book was the collection of his remarkable researches and their results. His afterward excessive success was “Molecular Biology of the Cell” and his third book “Recombinant DNA” and this is assumed as an outstanding addition in the field.
Watson’s achievement and the attainments headed to his nomination as the Head of the Human Genome Project and he held the position. He has won many awards and prizes for his superb working.
