With quite an extraordinary knock-out victory over the experienced Jorge Gurgel during his 2nd round fight , Karl James Noons, best known as KJ Noons, has now moved one step closer to a shot at Gilbert Melendez’ Strikeforce Lightweight Title.
Last night, before delivering a crushing combo that sent the bewildered Brazilian to the canvas, KJ Noons went toe to toe with Gurgel after the fight opened with the pair trading leg kicks as if they were finding their range to operate. Although Jorge Gurgel tested his pushing forward, pressing the action and stand-up early.
However, KJ Noons quickly became the attacker and while both continued to trade the devastating combos, KJ Noons clearly served his opponent with the better part of the deal. As the 1st round winded down, KJ Noons, who had been seen avoiding a half-hearted takedown attempt, fired off a ‘big left’ that dropped Gurgel just as the bell sounded.
Despite being knock-down badly with the ‘big left’ in first round, Gurgel looked to have recovered in the second round of the fight. However, KJ Noons, without wasting any further moment, quickly dropped him once again with a fierce and power-pack combo.
As Gurgel fell on his knees, KJ Noons then backed off to celebrate his victory, but when the referee did not appear to have stopped the match, KJ Noons aggressively threw a few additional punches to his grounded opponent following an illegal knee attack.
As a result of that questionable strike, the referee didn’t even bother to check the condition of Gurgle and finally stepped in to reward KJ Noons with the 2nd round stoppage.
