Long Island University enjoys a win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday night in Northeast Conference tournament. Kenny Onyechi’s lay-up about 1:48 to go sealed the win for Long Island University in the quarterfinals.
The 63-61 win was an exciting game as Terence Grier’s lay-up tied the game at 61-61 when clock was showing just 2:11 to go. No 4 seeded Blackbirds and No 5 seeded Knights presented a game to watch and relish afterwards as Blackbirds were leading the game with 60-51 with just 6:12 minutes to go to finish the game.
The Knights responded with equal ferocity and Terrence equaled the game at 61-61 but then Fairleigh Dickinson went zero for seven for rest of the game.
The exciting game finished while Jamal Olasewere scored 14 points and made 15 rebounds and Michael Culpo added 15 points but all on 3s for Long Island.
The semifinals are scheduled for March 7, and Blackbirds will play against No 1 seed Quinnipiac. Quinnipiac has defeated Monmouth with 84-75. Let us hope that blackbirds will fly well against Quinnipiac on Sunday.
Other contributors for Long Island were David Hicks with 11 points where as Kenny Onyechi and Jaytornah added 10 points each for Long Island. On the opposite side, Alvin Mofunanya scored 11 points for Knights and 11 rebounds.
