According to the reports of local officials, Matt Simmons, the person who founded Houston-based Simmons & Co. International and wrote the 2005 book ‘Twilight in the Desert: The Coming Saudi Oil Shock and the World Economy’ through which he raised concerns about Saudi Arabia’s oil reserves, died yesterday in an accidental drowning at his home in Maine, North Haven Island. The initial investigation reports stated, Matt Simmons was found Sunday night at his home in hot tub and an autopsy by the state medical examiner’s office concluded on Monday 9th August, 2010 “Matt Simmons died from unintentional drowning with heart disease as a contributing factor”. Matt Simmons laid out his theory that “the world is approaching towards peak oil production” in 2005 and after just two years later in 2007, Matt Simmons founded ‘The Ocean Energy’ Institute, a think tank and business enterprise capital fund in Rockland that is said to be built to promote programs like ‘offshore wind energy research and development’. The Ocean Energy institute is also a fraction of the group led by the University of Maine, which has an aim to design and test floating deep-water wind turbine platforms. Maine Governor named John Baldacci, who graced the inauguration ceremony of the institute’s headquarters last month, paid tribute to this great thinker by saying “Matt Simmons was an innovative thinker who pushed ideas that have the potential to yield a more environmentally and economically sustainable future for Maine and the world”.
