Last night, following the most recent updates regarding the forecast cone for Hurricane Earl which revealed that the gigantic storm had finally shifted towards the East Coast, the North Carolina officials announced an evacuation of Ocracoke Island that reportedly has begun since earlier today on Wednesday at 5 am.

On Tuesday 31st August, 2010 North Carolina officials announced “visitors will be evacuated from Ocracoke Island as Hurricane Earl, rapidly moving towards the East Coast, has put on enormous strength over the Atlantic Ocean”.

According to the Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reports, yesterday approximately 5,000 vacationers were there on the Ocracoke Island, who were ordered to leave the Ocracoke Island on Wednesday morning. However, almost 800 enduring inhabitants of the Ocracoke Island have been permitted to remain there.

Late on Tuesday eve Craig Fugate, head of Federal Emergency Management Agency, said that Tuesday was the most important day for folks who may be in the path of the Category 4 storm to prepare, in event further evacuations were being expected to be ordered Wednesday morning.

And as per the official statement issued by the National Hurricane Center Miami (NHCM), the center of Hurricane Earl was 1,000 miles away from the south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina and the hurricane, accompanied by top unrelenting winds of 135 mph, was expected to hit the Ocracoke Island by Wednesday evening.

It was also reported by the same source that, till 11:00 pm Tuesday, Hurricane Earl was tracked at about 130 miles north east of Grand Turk Island.
