Fremont, Ohio – Rob Lytle, a former American football running back who played for the Denver Broncos of NFL for nearly 7 years (1977-1983), has passed away here in Ohio. The 56-year-old NFL star RB was the only Broncos running back ever to score a TD during the Orange Crush days.

Rob Lytle died at a local hospital in Fremont, Ohio on Saturday 20th November, 2010. According to the details, the all-American Michigan running back Rob Lytle suffered a heart attack and was rushed to the Fremont Memorial Hospital on Saturday night where he spent his last few moments under observation.

Born in Fremont, Ohio Rob Lytle attended the University of Michigan (1973-1976) where he set a then school record with 1,469 rushing yards. In 1976, he finished third in the Heisman Trophy balloting.

He was drafted in by the Broncos in the 2nd round of 1977’s NFL draft with their 45th overall pick. During the seven consecutive seasons in which he played for the Broncos, Rob Lytle rushed for 1,451 yards, caught 61 passes for 562 yards, scored 12 rushing and 2 receiving touchdowns and returned six kickoffs for 99 yards.

According to a former Michigan offensive line coach Jerry Hanlon, Rob Lytle was very disciplined and confident. “He was confident but never cocky”, said Jerry while talking about the good old days that he spent training Rob Lytle.

Rob Lytle is survived by his father William Lytle, his wife Tracy Lytle, a daughter Erin Tober, a son Kelly Lytle and his granddaughter Audrey.
