Rod Blagojevich, the Former Illinois governor who was accused for 24 counts in a massive corruption trial that had fascinated the entire American nation, has been found guilty on just one count.
Rod Blagojevich, who is famous for being an outspoken and colorful character, was found blameworthy in only 1 count and escaped being found guilty on the 23 other counts just yesterday on Tuesday 17th August, 2010 after the jury could not make a decision on any other charges against him.
Now, that in effect, made the court decision a certain type of triumph for Rod Blagojevich and his legal team.
Rod Blagojevich, the brave guy who stood up for himself and his brother and may have helped both-selves in the end, told the crowd of reporters “the verdict shows you that the government threw everything but the kitchen sink at me! They could not prove I did anything wrong, except for one hazy charge from five years ago”.
Jeffrey Toobin, a legal analyst at CNN, said that it was surely an explicit victory for Rod Blagojevich. However, it might be only be a short-term victory as government prosecutors straight away signaled that they would push for a retrial. That means a new case against Rod Blagojevich is now all set to open out in the days yet to come.
Though some serious allegations like extortion, racketeering, wire fraud and bribery were included in the list of charges against him, however the case against Rod Blagojevich was centered largely on allegation that the former Illinois governor had attempted to sell the available Senate seat, left by Barack Obama’s winning of the 2008 presidential election, in his state.
The judgment in Rod Blagojevich was read out in a Chicago court room. It came after the jury members had debated for 14 days over charges and finally concluded that Rod Blagojevich hadn’t been engaged in all up-stated allegations.
