Reading this you might assume that I lost my senses, well you’re wrong, but you will lose yours when you get the chance to walk on the Sears Tower Ledge made out of only 1-1/5 inch thick glass. One hundred and three floors high building has opened their new glass made Sky-deck for the visitors few days ago, just to experience that how it feels like to walk on top of Chicago.
The Sear Tower Sky-deck was build on the west end of the building because other side of the building were consist of sub roofs with different roof line and it was not possible to see straight down from that height, so it was decided by the management that west end of the building will be suitable for the project.
The Sear Tower Ledge is suspended more than 1,350 feet in the air, with virtually nothing more than three layered 1-1/5 inch thick glass under the feet of visitors, the sky-deck is suspended just 4ft out from the main building with glass walls. It is practically impossible to imagine the sight without visiting the sky-deck of Sear Towers.
General Manager Randy Stancik said the idea came from hundreds of forehead-prints left on the sky-deck windows by the visitors every day, the Sear Towers Ledge was opened for general public on 2nd July, 2009 for the visiting.
