Congressman Wilson is facing some possible censure head-on as somewhat to continue a low outline, Rep. Joe “You lie!” Wilson (R-S.C.) returned to the view of the crime — or, at least, the apparent desecration of House rules of decorum — Monday afternoon with the first House level dialogue of the week.
House Democratic leaders are still deciding what actions to take against Wilson for his eruption during President Obama’s speak to a common conference of Congress last week. After his dialogue on Monday, the official told journalists that he hasn’t heard any rumblings as to which way the hammer will go down.
Some leadership staffers said Monday that Democrats have tried to talk about a number of steps short of a floor vote with Wilson, but the Congressman said he hasn’t been get in touch with with leadership. “I haven’t been. Truthful,” he said.
As usual soft-spoken — despite Wednesday night’s eruption Wilson didn’t appear particularly anxious by his unexpected leap to national prominence.
After Democratic plans for his fault began to expand at the end of last week, he affirmed in a declaration that he would not take part in “political games,” and announced “I am not asking for forgiveness again.”
The eruption and its aftershocks have been superior fund raising fodder for both Wilson and his Democratic competitor Rob Miller. Wilson has raised more than $1 million since the play began and Miller has collected around $1.5 million as of Monday afternoon.
Rep. Steve King has been distributing a letter demanding united GOP opposition to any proper action against Wilson and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) is an expected participant.
